Emergency Relief – Flood & IDP Assistance:
NFL distributed food and medical supplies amongst the victims of the floods in interior Sindh and Punjab. Numerous internal departments and employees took personal interest in distributing the much needed aid to the affected populace. This project was undertaken in partnership with the National Rural Support Program (NRSP).
Furthermore, with the recent influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and Internally Displaced Families (IDF) in the Bannu and North Waziristan region of Pakistan, NFL joined hands with Omair Sana Foundation to support these people in the time of need through contributing in Rashan distribution, Iftaar Dasterkhuwan and Eid meals.
Breast Cancer & Anti-Tobacco Awareness:
With the staggering increase in the number of Breast and Lung Cancer patients in Asia and especially Pakistan, NFL collaborated with Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre for conducting informative awareness sessions company-wide to provide vital information to all its participants.
This included precautionary measures, first stage self check-up, indications of going to a doctor and other relevant facts and figures.
Saaf Paani Sehatmand Zindagi:
With an emphasis on improving the quality of life of our workforce and their families, NFL partnered with Aman Health Foundation to spread awareness regarding the benefits of consuming clean drinking water to our factory labor, janitorial, catering and security staff present at all NFL facilities nation-wide including SITE, Port Qasim and Muridke.
Saaf Paani Sehatmand Zindagi – our tagline reinforces the basic fact that clean water is fundamental to healthy life! In order to ensure the sustainability of this initiative, we have also provided our workers the opportunity of taking clean drinking water to their homes, completely free of cost.
Pakistan Agriculture Coalition (PAC)
In collaboration with PAC, NFL frequently encourages its farmers to further enhance their learning through vocational trainings that focuses on improving productivity, quality of yields and modern progressive techniques enabling us to adopt best practices.
Water Filtration Plants (Rural Communities):
Safe drinking water has always been a problem in the rural areas and with the lack of proper water sanitation, purification and filtration systems in place, our communities are plagued with various kinds of diseases and afflictions. In order to mitigate the effect spread through the presence of dirty water, NFL along with So Safe Pakistan has installed 3 Water Filtration Plants, which provides clean drinking water to over 5,000 people.
In line with our objective of ensuring a healthier community and making clean drinking water accessible to our fellow beings in the rural communities across Pakistan, NFL aims to install new water plants each year, which will focus on providing abundant clean drinking water for the people of the community and nearby areas and also foster a positive environmental impact.
Market Development Facility (MDF)
Pakistan plays a pivotal role in the international market as one of the largest Chili producers in the world. Chili is one of the main cash crops for farmers in Sindh and its production is predominantly undertaken through sharecropping. However, the quality and production of Chili has seen a gradual decrease in recent years due to poor drying techniques and Chili cultivation methods.
In our pursuit to create a mutually beneficial cyclical effect, the farmers are provided with increased accessibility and training on modern harvesting and improved drying techniques that not only aid in reducing the levels of Aflatoxin in Chilies, but in turn also help in substantially improving the livelihood of the farmers through increased quality of crops and compliance to international standards.
In addition to being the first company to increase the quality of the Chili crops through establishing a focused Nursery System, which helps ensure that only the healthiest and strongest seeds are hand-picked and planted in our chili farms, NFL recently joined hands with Market Development Facility (MDF)/AUS aid to develop an efficient and productive scheme that will allow us to primarily study and produce Aflatoxin controlled chilies on a large scale, whilst ensuring supply chain sustainability and backward value chain integration.
Value Chain Empowerment:
NFL has taken a step towards upstream value chain integration by adopting modern post-chili harvesting techniques.
In addition to providing its chili farmers with geo-textiles we have also educated them regarding the use and long-term benefits of the same. Geo-textiles works as a catalyst for reducing the presence of a harmful substance called Aflatoxin, while ensuring greater crop yields with enhanced quality. Linked to our Value Chain initiative, is our goal of improving the quality of life for our Share Croppers (Chili Farmers). Thus, we have installed multiple Water Filtration Plants in the Tharparker district to help provide clean and safe drinking water to the entire chili growing community. This helps us reduce the affect of the plethora of water-borne diseases having a direct impact on the health and lifestyles of our Share Croppers.
